JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

A Jackson, Missouri man is behind bars after he attempted to rob a convenience store with a BB gun.

On Tuesday, Dec. 27, the Jackson Police Department received a report of an armed robbery at Casey’s General Store, located at 920 W. Independence.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a male suspect had accosted an employee opening the store that day and had forced the employee to allow him inside.

The suspect then remained in the store and waited until another employee arrived so access to the safe could be gained. The suspect had on his person what appeared to the employees to be a firearm in a holster. The suspect took money from the safe and merchandise from the store. The male wore a mask during the robbery and left the scene on foot.

Upon further investigation, police were able to identify the suspect as Jacob L. Cooper, 28, of Jackson.

Items from the robbery were recovered from Cooper's home, along with the weapon the employees observed. The weapon was a BB pistol that is a replica of a firearm.

Among the stolen property police recovered at Cooper's home were two bags of sunflower seeds, a keychain flashlight, two bags of beef jerky, and a cell phone stylus pen and nearly 900 dollars in cash.

Cooper arrested and is charged by the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with robbery in the first-degree.

His bond has been set at $75,000.
