CALDWELL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Kentucky State Police investigated a single-car crash that occurred on KY 91, approximately five miles north of Princeton, on Wednesday, December 28.

The investigation revealed that the driver, James Hughes, was traveling south on KY 91 North, approximately five miles north of Princeton.

Hughes said that he fell asleep, causing his vehicle to exit the southbound shoulder of the roadway.

Hughes' vehicle then struck an earthen embankment just off the southbound shoulder, and then struck a utility pole.

The impact of the crash snapped the utility pole, and Hughes vehicle came to final rest partially in the southbound lane of travel facing west.

Hughes was treated at the scene by Caldwell County EMS for injuries sustained as a result of the crash, and transported by ambulance to Caldwell County Medical Center.  Mr. Hughes was wearing a seat belt.

Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, Caldwell County EMS, and the Princeton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
