SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Scott County will soon have a new title: Associate Circuit Judge.

Governor Jay Nixon appointed D. Blake Pearson to the role on Dec. 28.

Pearson will take over for the Honorable William H. Winchester who recently retired.

According to a release from the governor's office, Pearson has been with the Scott County Prosecutor's office since 2013.

He also serves as the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Special Prosecutor for Scott, Bollinger and Mississippi counties.

When Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013-2014, Pearson served as the interim Prosecuting Attorney.

“I am pleased to appoint Blake Pearson, who will bring varied legal experience and knowledge to the bench,” Gov. Nixon said. “I know that his experience in both the public and private practice of law will be a valuable asset as he serves the people of Scott County as Associate Circuit Judge.”

In addition to his legal expertise, Pearson has been involved with community organizations like the YMCA of Southeast Missouri and the Sikeston Area Youth Baseball League.
