POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

A man is behind bars after putting up a fight with a Poplar Bluff police officer.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department says Timothy Williams is facing numerous charges after he was identified as a suspicious person at Jiffy Self Storage.

Officer Janes was dispatched to the storage units in the 3000 block of south Westwood on Dec. 20 just before 7 p.m.

Police checked and found there was an outstanding warrant for Williams' arrest.

When police told Williams he was under arrest, he told the officer he did not have a warrant, then shoved his hand in his pocket and assumed a fighting stance.

As Officer Janes reached for Williams' arm, Williams pulled his hand from the pocket and swung a part of a scissor blade at the officer.

The officer was able to force Williams to the ground.

Williams said, "OK, I dropped I tossed it,” but continued to resist, and grabbed Officer Janes’ wrists.

Officer Janes was able to free one hand and used his radio to call for assistance.

Officer Janes attempted to use a taser, but Williams grabbed Officer Janes’ arm with both of his hands and pushed the taser toward Officer Janes.

Williams was placed in handcuffs after two other officers showed up.

At the time of his arrest, Williams was also carrying a large bowie style knife with an 8 inch blade, and a utility knife.

Williams was booked on charges of second degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, resisting arrest, and a Poplar Bluff Municipal warrant for failure to appear (on an original charge of possession of marijuana).

He was lodged in the Butler County Jail.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
