PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A Paducah woman has been charged with second-degree assault after allegedly stabbing a man during an argument.

Shirley A. Mitchell, 42, of Paducah, was arrested Monday, Dec. 19 after being accused of stabbing Arthur Williams, 58, of Paducah.

Williams was transported to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment for his injuries.

Officers say they responded to a home in the 1200 block of South 6th Street around 10 p.m. Monday after receiving the initial call.

Det. Nathan Jaimet was also called out and spoke with Williams at Baptist Health Paducah.

Williams told the detective that he and Mitchell, with whom he lives, were arguing and she cut him on the hand with a knife.

According to Jaimet, Williams also sustained superficial cuts to his cheek and neck.

Mitchell came to the police department and spoke with Jaimet. He said she changed her story several times, but finally admitted to grabbing a knife during an argument, saying Williams may have cut himself when he pushed her.

She was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault and booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.
