SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A wanted felon is behind bars after a police chase in Sikeston.

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, 31-year-old Marco Tyrone Sawyer, of Sikeston, was wanted for several felony warrants when police found him driving Thursday afternoon on Dec. 15.

Sawyer was traveling in the 900 block of Davis Street around 12:31 p.m.

Police say Sawyer failed to yield to officers.

Officers followed him as he tried to elude them.

While he was driving Sawyer failed to stop at a stop sign, and continued to rapidly accelerate through many areas.

At one point, police say Sawyer swerved towards another patrol vehicle that was headed towards him on North Street.

Police say Sawyer sped through a school zone, crossed Malone Avenue, and continued driving on Stoddard Street until he pulled into a driveway in the 200 block of W. Gladys Street.

At that point, police say Sawyer got out of his car and ran towards Dorthy Street.

Officers say he did not stop despite their commands.

He was taken into custody a little while later.

Sawyer was wanted for a parole violation associated with the sale of cocaine, failure to appear for larceny, and resisting arrest.
