ILLINOIS (KFVS) -

The Illinois Sheriff's Association is warning all residents of a fake phone campaign attempting to solicit funds from people, using the name "Disabled Police and Sheriffs Foundation".

This group is not legitimate nor associated in any way with the Illinois Attorney general's Office or any police organization in the state of Illinois.

The Illinois Sheriff's Association wants to remind residents that it will never solicit over the phone.

If you receive such a call, you have the right to ask for information such as the name, address, and phone number of the organization and/or telemarketing firm, the percentage of every dollar paid to that firm, and something put down in writing before making any sort of commitment.

If you can't get any of these answers from the caller, or if you receive any call looking to solicit funds who claim to be representing the Illinois Sheriff's Association, you're advised to hang up and report the call to the Sheriff's Association at ISA@ilsheriff.org.
