ANNA, IL (KFVS) -

The New Coats, New Hope campaign in Southern Illinois is distributing winter clothing to those in need this season.

The WIBH Radio New Coats, New Hope Campaign aims to provide hundreds of children in Southern Illinois counties with brand new winter coats to stay warm.

Organizers partner with Anna child advocacy groups Children’s Medical & Mental Resource Network, Two Rivers Child Advocacy, and Head Start.

Ginger Meyer, clinical director with Children’s Medical & Mental Resource Network, says a new coat can go a long way.

"We work with children who have been reportedly abused and neglected so in that population we do find children that do need warm winter coats and other things,” she said. “We have hats and gloves and scarves to send home with them too."

Through fundraising, organizers say they raised $7,500 and were able to buy 400 coats this year. That figure doubled their goal at the start of the campaign.

In addition to working with the child advocacy groups, New Coats, New Hope is holding a distribution day for the public.

Their last distribution will take place Wednesday, Dec. 28 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Two Rivers Child Advocacy, located at 109 Denny Ln, Anna, IL 62906
