GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Two women are facing charges after two toddlers were found by deputies outside their homes in the cold.

Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon reports that on Thursday at about 10:15 a.m., deputies responded to Lowes Elementary School for the report of two children ages 2 and 4 that were found in the road on KY 339 North.

Deputies found that the children were not properly dressed for the conditions outside, with the temperature at 23 degrees Fahrenheit.

The children were dressed in night gowns and one had no shoes on.

It was also determined that the children were hungry, had head lice and the younger of the two had a diaper that had not been changed in quite some time.

The mother of the children, Hannah Taber, was found across the street from the school at 5235 KY 339 North.

Amber Jackson, 24, of Graves County, was also inside the house.

The two females said that they were domestic partners.

Both Jackson and Taber were in the bed asleep upon the arrival of deputies to the home and both were under the influence of alcohol.

The living conditions of the home were not suitable for children to live in.

The Cabinet for Families and Children was notified and responded to the scene.

An aunt of Taber came to the home and was approved by CFC for temporary custody of the children.

Both Taber and Jackson were arrested on charges of wanton endangerment and child abuse.

Taber and Jackson were lodged in the Graves County Jail.
