CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A new agreement between Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the SIUC Faculty Association has been reached.

According to releases from both groups, the collective bargaining agreement will be in place until June 30, 2018.

“As important as the progress we’ve made is the way we’ve made it,” said Faculty Association President Dave Johnson. “This time around, both bargaining teams, Faculty Association and administration alike, made a real effort to find common ground. This agreement is good news for SIUC.”

The proposed new agreement will replace a collective bargaining agreement that expired June 30, 2014.

While negotiations on the new agreement have continued, the administration and faculty have been working under the terms of the previous agreement.

The SIU Board of Trustees still has to give final approval to the agreement.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
