Harrisburg, IL resident sentenced to 20 years on aggravated sexual assault charge

SALINE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

According to the Saline County State's Attorney Office, a southern Illinois man will spend at least 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Deangelo M. Cowper, 33, of Harrisburg, pleaded guilty to the charged in a negotiated agreement with the state. Cowper was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and is required to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for release.

Cowper will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

The incident originally occurred on June 27, 2015 after Cowper made a 13-year-old girl consume controlled substances.
