MURRAY, KY (KFVS) -

Officials at Murray State University are investigating after what they call a "very sophisticated phishing email" was sent through the university's email system.

That email was sent to about 650 accounts.

Users were asked to log onto their 'MSU myGate' account, which is an internal web page for University Staff.

The link in the email was actually to a spoofed login page.

School leaders believe that the direct deposit information for some employees has been accessed because of the spoof.

Those responsible for the spoof email may also have access to personal information like home addresses, grades, benefits/payroll deduction information, and social security numbers.

Those that received the spoof email have been contacted by Information Systems employees and instructed to change their myGate password along with any other accounts that may use the same password.
