RED BUD, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Rep. Jerry Costello II recently visited the Pinckneyville High School and served as the "Principal for a Day."

Costello met with students and teachers and served as a lunch monitor.

“The Principal for a Day program allows me as an elected official to step inside the classroom and learn firsthand how local schools are educating our children,” Costello said.

Costello said learning about the new developments in the classrooms ensures that the decisions he makes as a legislator supports the teachers and administrators as they ensure student excellence.”

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
