Carbondale mayor to hold State of the City Address

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce is set to host the city's "2016 State of the City Address" at 12 p.m. Dec. 13.

Mayor John "Mike" Henry will discuss the different improvements made in the city of Carbondale this year.

According to a city official, some points of discussion include: demolition work made for New Horizons OB/GYN, future home of Casey's and the old Horizon Inn. Mayor Henry will also talk about the new Hilton Home2 Suites, The Landings Senior Lifestyle Community and the Illinois Avenue Street scape Project. Carbondale was also named a "bicycle friendly community" by the League of American Bicyclists.

On top of those discussion points, mayor Henry will discuss the city's budget and the relationship between Carbondale PD and the public.

The event will begin with a lunch at the Carbondale Civic Center where tickets are $20 at the door. If you make reservations for the event, the price is $15 and can be made by calling (618) 549-2146.

The money made from the event will go towards Mayor John Henry's Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for Carbondale Community High School students planning to attend Southern Illinois University.
