MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

A Malden, Missouri couple is making their mark across southeast Missouri this holiday season.

This year the couple made more than 4,000 Christmas cards to hand out to people in not only their community but other places, as well.

“It makes me feel that I am worth something and that I’m appreciated and I just appreciate everything that people do for the veterans here," Marvin Clark, a shuttle bus driver at John J Pershing VA Medical Center, said.

Jacqueline and Mitcheal Chandler made 4,148 Christmas cards this year.

Their mission is to make sure everyone feels the holiday spirit.

"That many people somebody is got to be having a bad Christmas and this card might be the only Christmas they have and somebody might be like I used to be thinking about a loved one or lost one," Jacqueline Chandler said.

At the John J Pershing VA Medical Center the Chandlers gave cards to everyone in sight.

"We started in 2009 and it just grows and grows,” Mitcheal Chandler said.

Annett Sheets said she comes to the center every day for her husband who has different mental issues and doctors appointments. He also just had surgery for prostate cancer.

“It feels really good to have somebody who thinks about the veterans like that," Sheets said. “I’m sure it makes a lot of people feel happy and needed and wanted.”

After the VA Center, the Chandlers went to Popeyes in Poplar Bluff and dropped off 36 cards to both employees and customers.

“She is the only lady that’s ever done it and we appreciate it and not everybody gets a Christmas card every year and it really makes a difference for some people," the store manager said.

The couple wasn’t finished with just those businesses. They have more planned stops on their list and hope to give out all the cards by Wednesday.
