Suspected shoplifter leads deputies on chase, knocks McCracken Co. deputy down

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

An alleged shoplifter is behind bars after a chase in McCracken County.

According to the sheriff's department, deputies responded to the Walmart on Irvin Cobb Drive for a report that a man was running from security.

The suspect, Jason Nikolov, 38, of Paducah stole about $78 worth of merchandise and ran across the parking lot, according to the department.

A deputy found Nikolov inside a nearby store and when the deputy approached him, Nikolov is accused of pushing the deputy and knocking him down.

The deputy was able to catch up with Nikolov and took him into custody.

He faces several charges including assault 3rd degree police officer, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and theft by unlawful taking.
