PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

A community is mourning after the death of a young man over the weekend.

According to Pinckneyville Community High School Principal Dustin Foutch, Garrett Laine Williams died Saturday night in a single vehicle wreck.

Williams was leaving a birthday celebration at a friends house when he was driving and lost control on a gravel road and wrecked, according to Foutch.

Foutch said that Williams was very loved and considered to be a solid, good man that will be missed by many.

He was in his junior year.

Williams was an "outstanding" left handed pitcher for the Panthers, according to Foutch.

He was also a member of the high school's wrestling team.

Foutch said they have counselors, social workers and the Ministerial Alliance on hand at the school for the students. He calls it a sad day for the entire community.

204 school district posted on its Facebook that on Tuesday Sept. 13, 2016 it will not hold after school athletic practices because of William’s visitation tomorrow.

Jerry Travelstead is the principal and superintendent at 204 and first met Williams when he was in 7th and 8th grade. He said there wasn’t a single student that didn’t like him.

“I’ll be honest with you...the faculty and staff have a hard time too, anytime you lose a member of the community as special as this boy was, you start to think about how it affects their lives, their parents lives and their friend’s lives," Travelstead said.

On Tuesday morning Sept. 13, 2016 at 7:45 a.m. his high school will meet on the football field for a vigil.

Students have been encouraged to wear camouflage in his honor.

Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa is holding the arrangements.
