CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A new sculpture was unveiled in Cape Girardeau at the Cape River Heritage Museum on Sunday, September 11.

The stainless steel sculpture was put in place in honor of Cape Girardeau fire fighters and police officers.

Dozens were on hand for the ceremony, including many first responders. The sculpture represents what first responders do for the City of Cape Girardeau.

Sunday marks 15 years since the devastating 9/11 terror attacks in New York City.

Fire station number one was built in 1909 and is now the Cape River Heritage Museum.

This is only the first stage of the sculpture as there are plans to build outer walls, benches, engraved bricks, a plaque and more.
