MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A distracted driver is accused of causing a crash that sent three others to the hospital and lands him in legal hot water.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened just after 10 a.m. on Cairo Road.

Deputies say Cameron Molott, 20, of Kevil was driving north when he crossed into the southbound lane and hit another car head on.

The driver of that car said she saw the car coming and tried to avoid a crash, but could not.

She and two passengers in her car had to go to the hospital for treatment.

Molott told responding deputies that he was looking at his phone at the time of the crash.

He also allegedly told investigators that he smoke marijuana before he got behind the wheel.

According to the department, Molott had marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession at the time of the crash.

He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, criminal mischief, wanton endangerment, trafficking in marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Molott was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
