MARION, IL (KFVS) -

A couple of lakes in southern Illinois may look a little different this month.

Crab Orchard Lake and Little Grassy Lake on Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge will have a temporary draw down, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Service will be conducting scheduled, periodic inspections of the spillways of these lakes.

The will have to lower the lake levels by approximately 6 inches below normal pool elevation to conduct the inspections.

The draw downs will begin in the second week of September and the inspections are scheduled to begin the week of September 19th.

They will begin with lowering the lake levels by increasing the outflows of the spillways.

The 6 inch drop in the water level should only have a minimal impact.

Boaters are asked to use more caution at boat ramps and shallow portions of the lakes.
