First Alert Weather Outlook:

Thursday is looking sweaty in the Heartland. Heading out the door you’ll already feel the heat and humidity, by this afternoon the heat index will make it feel like between 95-105 degrees. There is a small but increasing chance of thunderstorms today into tonight. FIRST ALERT: the start of your weekend looks stormy, but once the storms move through the Heartland will enjoy some cooler, dryer weather.

Making Headlines:

Under investigation: A late night shooting in Cape Girardeau sent a person to the hospital. Police are still investigating the incident.

Second chance: St. Francois County voters get a second shot at selecting their County Commissioner today. Back on August 2, their original primary election resulted in a tie. Polls open today at 6 a.m.

Arrest made: Authorities in Calloway County, Kentucky arrested a man in connection to a truck that was found engulfed in flames on Collins Road in the Kirksey area on Aug. 21. The suspect, who is also the owner of the truck, was arrested late Wednesday night.

Fatal crash: A southern Illinois man killed in a motorcycle crash in Indiana was a wanted fugitive in Edwards County, Ill.  Bobby Pershing Miller, of Grayville, Ill. barely escaped arrest a few weeks ago.
