SOUTHEAST MISSOURI (KFVS) -

Volunteers will be rocking in rocking chairs at locations in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Fruitland, Scott City and Sikeston on Saturday, October 8.

Those participating will rock for 10 hours straight, raising money for families of police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics who were killed in the line of duty.

The event is called "Rockin' 4 Relief" and was founded in 2009 by Jennifer Rubin, who was 12 years old at the time. Since then, the event has raised nearly $110,000. Oprah Winfrey donated $13,000 to the cause.

The event started in St. Louis, but came to southeast Missouri last fall. The group is looking for volunteers, rocking chairs, locations and sponsors. An informational meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 12 at 7 p.m. on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University inside Crisp Hall.

If you have questions, contact Jennifer Rubin at rockin4relief@hotmail.com.
