An estimated three million Americans suffer from celiac disease.

It is an autoimmune disorder that impacts the digestive process, characterized by an intolerance to gluten.

Kent State reports administrators have noticed an increase in the number of students on campus with a gluten intolerance.

The problem: the difficulty to find suitable gluten-free options when dining away from home.

Kent State added a feature in the fall of 2016 that would fix that problem.

They introduced the nation's first certified gluten-free college dining hall called Prentice Cafe.

All items on the menu are gluten free. The menu also features vegan and vegetarian options.

Prentice Cafe earned certification from the Gluten-Free Food Services Certification Program.

Anyone is welcome to dine at the cafe.

A grand opening celebration will be held on Sept. 7.
