Tech Tuesday: Why you need to change your security questions

(KFVS) -

You hear all the time about changing your passwords so thieves can't access your personal information.

But you may want to also change out your security hint questions.

Many credit card companies and banks make you choose—from a list of default security questions.

Near the top of the list is, "What is your mother's maiden name?"

The idea of using your mother's maiden name as a security clue has been common at banks since 1882.

But fraud investigators say you should never give that answer, because the information's too easy for thieves to find either through an internet search, your Facebook account, or even going low-tech and making a few phone calls or checking public records.

And with so much personal information online your best bet is to pick a more obscure security question.
