JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Some of the first cars are making their way around the new Jackson roundabout.

On Wednesday afternoon, traffic started utilizing Main Street and the south leg of Route 61. Most of the roundabout is completed - except the north leg of Route 61.

Washington Street (Route 61) is closed from the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse to Hope Street for the final phase of the project. This will allow MoDOT’s contractor to install a water line, lay asphalt, and pour concrete on sidewalks and islands.

This portion of the work is expected to be completed in approximately four weeks, weather permitting.

Traffic will be detoured from Route D to Farmington Road to Route 34/72.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling in the area and to follow the work zone signage.
