MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

Dozens of kids took part in some Apple Pie 101 Workshops at the University of Illinois Extension office in Murphysboro, Illinois on Saturday, September 3.

Together they were instructed how to make an apple pie from scratch.

This gave them hands on experience of cooking, prepping and following instructions.

Apple Pie 101 Workshops are aimed help keep the tradition of apple pie making alive in the community and to promote the Apple Pie Contest as part of the Apple Fest coming up in a couple weeks in Murphysboro.

There were two workshop classes for 4-H youth (ages 8-18) at the University of Illinois Extension on Saturday.

This year there will be a separate youth division category. The best apple pie in the youth division will be awarded a plaque and $50.

Each child made their own apple pie and added the ingredients of their choosing to take home and bake later.

The Apple Festival goes from Wednesday, September 14 through Saturday, September 17.\
