CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A new agreement between Southern Illinois University and a St. Louis based regional airline could provide a runway to a career in aviation.

SIU has teamed up with Trans States Airlines to offer a way for students to become professional pilots after graduation.

Professor Jose Ruiz says the world will need 600,000 new aviators in the next 20 years, so this could be a great opportunity for those who want to fly high.

Under the program, students must have at least their Federal Aviation Administration private pilot license, agree to obtain their certified flight instructor license and work as a flight instructor at SIU Carbondale to complete their required flight hours to meet Trans States Airline's hiring requirement.

For more information, contact Jose Ruiz at 618-453-8898.
