WAPAPPELLO LAKE, MO (KFVS) -

Wappapello Lake beaches are closed for the season due to high water levels according to lake officials.

As of Thursday, lake stage is around 372 ft. That’s about 12 ft. above normal levels according to Army Corps of Engineer Rangers.

The lake will remain open to boaters but Rockwood Point, Redman Creek and Peoples Creek beaches are closed early as water is up over the sand at all three locations.

Ranger Tracey Schmidt says people should be conscious of the high water over Labor Day weekend.

"Safety is always a concern anytime you're out here on the lake,” Schmidt said. “Just keep in mind the lake is 12 feet high right now so places you used to be able to stand at, they're obviously going to be underwater."

Schmidt is reminding folks to always wear their personal floatation device when on a boat or in the water.

The annual 25-Mile Yard Sale will also be taking place along Highway T over the holiday weekend.

Rangers want to remind drivers to slow down with the extra traffic on the road.
