SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A Sikeston, Missouri mother is thanking many people who helped spread the word of the missing teenager which ultimately helped to get her home.

Lisa Burton had tears in her eyes as she described the moment she learned her 14-year-old daughter was missing.

She wanted to share what she went through, in the hope that other parents won't have to go through what she did.

"Fear, hurt, broken," said Burton. "Scared for my daughter's life."

Lisa Burton said she came home on Monday morning to an empty house and felt the sudden panic of realizing she couldn't find her teenage daughter.

"I called her name and she wasn't there and searched through the house," said Burton. "Each room that I went to and she wasn't there and wasn't answering back, fear gripped and I immediately grabbed my phone and called my husband and we got a hold of the authorities."

Burton didn't wait for that effort, she reached out on her own to friends and family. The use of social media was important to the safety of her daughter.

"I posted on Facebook um my daughter is missing and it spread like wild fire and I was amazed," said Burton.

Police in Clinton, Mo. received an anonymous tip and found her daughter. Both Burton and her husband drove to pick her up.

"The first thing that she said was, 'oh my god mom I'm so scared and I'm sorry."

Burton's daughter sat with us during our interview, and even with her safe at home, Burton said her emotions were still overpowering.

"When something is ripped from you, whether it's by force or will, and you don't know why it's a horrible feeling that I don't wish upon anybody, ever," she said.

However, Lisa Burton said that parents need to watch what their kids do online, pay attention and take action.

"Listen to them when they speak to you, it's important," said Burton. "I always thought I was the type of person that I caught every little thing but there's so many ways to hide other little things that can lead up to tragedy."

Police found Burton's daughter with a 19 year-old they arrested and placed on a 24-hour investigation. No word yet on any formal charges.
