First Alert Weather Outlook:

The last day of August begins with a mild and quiet morning. We’ll be slightly cooler than yesterday, with highs in the upper 80s. This afternoon the Heartland will see widely scattered showers and storms, continuing on into the evening. These shouldn’t be severe. FIRST ALERT: you’ll see a big change when you wake up Thursday morning, with much cooler temps and much lower humidity.

Making Headlines:

Under Investigation: A suspect injured in an officer-involved shooting in West St. Louis is expected to survive, according to police. The shooting happened around 11 p.m., but it all started with an armed carjacking earlier in the evening.

In custody: An armed and dangerous man was located after a police chase in St. Francois County, Missouri on Tuesday, August 30. According to Desloge Police, 48-year-old Joseph A. Schelsky from Ste. Genevieve County was taken into custody Tuesday evening.

First-hand look: The public is invited to walk along the unopened eastbound lanes of the new Eggners Ferry Bridge this morning. The bridge will officially open to four-lane traffic around 1 p.m.

On scene: Federal investigators are expected to be in Jefferson County, Illinois today to learn what caused a deadly ultra-light plane crash a couple miles south of the Mt. Vernon Airport yesterday afternoon. The small plane crashed in the middle of a soybean field, killing the pilot.
