Alcohol a factor in crash between ATV and patrol car

ROSICLARE, IL (KFVS) -

Charges are pending against a man from Elizabethtown, Illinois after he crashed into a police car.

According to Illinois State Police, Rosiclare Police Officer Greg Robinson was following a four-wheeler on Walnut Street and activated his emergency lights to stop the driver.

The driver, David Thomas, 44, tried to turn right onto 5th Street and ran into Officer Robinson's patrol car.

Thomas was thrown from the ATV and had to go to an Evansville, Indiana hospital for treatment.

It happened just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 28.

Investigators believe alcohol is a contributing factor in the crash.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash.

Charges in the case are pending.
