CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale, BGCC Keystone Club teens and the Carbondale Park District are hosting a Unity event at Turley Park on Thursday, September 1st at 4 p.m.

Organizers with the Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale say they want to highlight unity and positivity among the community’s youth, residents and city officials.

"There is much unrest and negativity within many communities as a result of the events taking place throughout our nation; which in turn dims the ongoing positive efforts with these communities," Director of Operations for the Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale, Tina Carpenter stated in a press release. "We want people to come together to demonstrate positivity among the youth and the entire Carbondale community."

The public is invited to attend this event September 1st at Turley Park from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Organizers ask you to bring or wear a white t-shirt, as everyone will be sharing a contagious unity of glitter.

There will be poetry, singing, and other fun activities to help complete the CommUNITY board.

The event will end with a march with signs of peace, unity and love.

For more information or if you have any questions, email Tina at the Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale at tcarpenter@bgc-cdale.org or Erin at the Park District at 618-549-4222.
