The Vienna Police Department is increasing the safety measures for online exchanges. Signs are now at the department's parking lot reading, 'Online Exchange Zone.'
This allows people who do online sales through certain websites such as Craigslist, and later meet in person, have a safe space to do the exchange.
The department stated on its Facebook page that with these online exchange zones, it prevents any crimes against any person, by using Law Enforcement agency parking lots to conduct transactions.
They is surveillance 24 hours.
Vienna isn't the first in southern Illinois to adopt this measure either. Both Carbondale and Marion PD have also similar online exchange safe zones in their parking lots.
