Authorities identify victims in fatal motorcycle crash in Jackson Co., IL

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Authorities have identified the two people who died in a motorcycle crash in Jackson County, Illinois on Sunday, August 28

William L. Skelton, 34, of Johnston City, along with Heather Basenberg, 27, of Du Quoin, were both killed in the crash

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash around 8 a.m. on Sunday. When deputies responded to the scene, they found a motorcycle.

Skelton was driving on Vaughn Rd. when he ran off of the the road and struck a tree.

Both Skelton and Basenger were thrown from the motorcycle in the crash.

Skelton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Basenberg suffered severe injuries, as well. Both were transported by Jackson County Ambulance Service to a local hospital.

Basenberg later died due to injuries she sustained in the crash.
