POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

There was lots of fun at the Missouri Angels Pageant for people with special needs in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on Saturday, August 27.

Along with all of the singing and dancing, contestants of all ages got the chance to have their time in the spotlight.

This is the fifth year for the pageant, which was started after Director Theresa Bradshaw saw a similar show in Arkansas.

Bradshaw said with all the things people with special needs have to deal with, she hopes to give them their time to shine.

“They just don’t get the recognition that the other girls do and judges tend to look past them because they’re not their standard of beauty," Bradshaw said. "They don’t see what we see and so I thought that others needed to feel what I felt that day when I saw my daughter on that stage.”

Contestants also got the chance to take a carriage ride with Disney Princess Elsa.

Bradshaw said she looks forward to having an even better pageant next year as the show continues to grow.
