Herrin police raising funds for new K9 program

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) -

The Herrin Police Department is trying to raise money to create a K9 program for the department.

According to a news release from the department, the program includes the purchase of a new dog, training for the handler, maintenance and housing for the dog, along with other related expenses.

First year costs are expected to be in the $30,000 range.

A Bocce Bash to raise money for the K9 program is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29. The event will be at the HerrinFesta Italiana Bocce Courts in Herrin.

A website has also been established to collect funds.
