CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The multi-million dollar sports complex project in Cape Girardeau, Missouri hit its midway mark.

The complex, located off of Kingshighway near I-55, will house two full-length soccer fields and 12 full-size basketball courts.

Julia Thompson with the Parks and Recreation Department gave us an update on the progress.

"We've always said we're going to be completed with construction mid-February," Thompson said, "and then we'll have probably about a month shakedown period as we hire staff and get familiar with the facility operations, so I would anticipate probably late March, early April for a grand opening if everything goes well."

Thompson said the building alone will cost more than $12 million.

Mid-America Corporation donated the land being used for the project.
