POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

A Poplar Bluff, Missouri man is wanted after police say he did not make his court appearance in connection to the Heavenly Hafford case.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is asking for the public's help finding Randel Sparks. He is wanted on a no bond capias warrant for his arrest.

Sparks was last known to be living in the Ozark, Mo. area.

Police say he failed to appear for a court date on Aug. 18 for his Dec. 9, 2015 arrest for leaving the scene of an accident.

According to Stephen Lynxweiler, Sparks' lawyer, Sparks was in the hospital for a week and wasn't able to physically be in court.

He said the judge issued a warrant after the prosecutor asked for one.

Lynxweiler said they knew Sparks was in the hospital and they were supposed to have a conference call to resolve everything on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. but they couldn't make contact with the judge.

That incident in December resulted in the death of 13-year-old Heavenly Hafford.

While investigating the incident, police learned that Sparks owned a blue Volkswagon Beetle, which matched the description of the suspect vehicle provided by witnesses.

Sparks was later found at a storage facility on Peach Street where police say he was removing parts from his vehicle.

He was then arrested.
