CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Police in Cape Girardeau have taken a man they say got into a wreck and ran away with a one-year-old child into custody.

Police say the man is in custody, but there was no sign of the child. They say a pregnant woman in the car did not have any visible signs of injury.

Officers at the scene said the driver rear ended another vehicle at the intersection of Sprigg Street and Highway 74.

The man then allegedly grabbed the child and ran from the scene, leaving a pregnant passenger in the car.

As officers were searching the car, our photographer watched them pull bags of what appeared to be drugs from the car.

The suspect was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m.

His name will not be released until formal charges have been filed.
