Paducah man charged with sexual abuse

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint alleging that a juvenile under the age of 12 had been sexually abused on July 31st, 2016.

The complaint alleged that on the day in question David Averitt, 46, of Paducah, was watching the juvenile at his home when the abuse took place.

As part of the investigation, the juvenile was forensically interviewed, and during the course of the interview, gave a detailed account of what had transpired with Averitt on that day.

Detectives continued the investigation which involved covert techniques. The facts surrounding the investigation was discussed with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and probable cause was determined to have been established.

Based upon the facts that surrounded the investigation, and after consulting with prosecutors, an arrest warrant was obtained for Averitt.
 
Averitt was arrested and charged with sexual abuse in the first-degree (a class C felony) on Tuesday, August 23.
