CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Construction on the roundabouts in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri are in full swing.

For now, in Cape Girardeau, a portion of Gordonville Road was closed on Monday, August 22, and the city of Cape Girardeau's website said the entire intersection will shut down in September after the SEMO District Fair.

The city hopes to have it finished by the end of the year.

City officials said the roundabout is necessary to keep traffic flowing at the busy intersection.

In Jackson, the new roundabout is replacing a four-way stop at East Main and 61.

The Missouri Department of Transportation hopes to have it finished by the end of October.
