Rend Lake College ranked in top 10 best community colleges

Rend Lake College ranks repeatedly ahead of the class in comparison to other community colleges.

WalletHub ranks the college in Ina at No. 7 on its list of best community colleges.

It fell behind colleges like Helene Fund College or Nursing in New Yoirk, and Illisagvik College in Alaska.

State Technical College of Missouri came in at No. 5.

Rend Lake College ranked in the top 20 for education outcomes and career outcomes.

According to WalletHub, community colleges are becoming a popular option for first-time college students.

"Across the board, community colleges are slowly stacking up against their university counterparts by offering better schedule flexibility, smaller class sizes and comparatively rigorous coursework, including bachelor’s degree programs in some states at a fraction of the university cost. First-time college entrants find those qualities most appealing..."

Ranking at the top

This isn't the first survey to rank Rend Lake College high.

In fact, the college came in at No. 1 on SmartAsset's list of top community colleges.

Rend Lake College is highlighted for its low student-teacher ratio at 15:1, and its high graduation rate at 67 percent.

The national average graduation/transfer rate sits at 40 percent, according to SmartAsset.

Rend Lake College also gets a lot of praise because its graduates have a starting salary that is 33 percent high than their college costs, according to SmartAsset.

“For the college to be acknowledged and honored by this study is a great testament to the continuous dedication by faculty and staff to our students,” RLC President Terry Wilkerson said about the SmartAsset ranking. “Like RLC, this study focuses on student success, and we hope to continue doing everything we can to help our students.”

In Wallet Hub's survey,it compared 821 schools using several metrics like cost of in-state tuition and fees, student-faculty ratio and graduation rate. 

For the average student planning to take two semesters of classes with 15 credit hours, it would cost them about $5,550 for tuition, books and supplies.

How does it stack up?

Comparatively speaking, Rend Lake College comes in way above other Heartland community colleges on WalletHub's survey.
