KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -

A man is facing a murder charge after police say he shot and killed a man after a quinceañera party in Kennett.

Josue Manuel Rivera,29,  is charged with 1st degree murder and armed criminal action in connection to the shooting death of Francisco Mendez.

According to Kennett police, on August 21, 2016, at approximately 12:57 am, officers responded to the 300 block of Miss Clara Drive in reference to shots being fired.

When they got there, officers found Mendez lying on the ground, bleeding and unresponsive.

Officials say he was transported to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center Emergency Room, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials confirmed that both the victim and suspect attended a quinceañera for the victim's daughter.

According to the probable cause statement, Rivera and Mendez got into an argument at the party which was held at the American Legion building.

Rivera then left the party.

Mendez called Rivera's girlfriend's phone and asked to speak with Rivera. Investigators said that Mendez asked Rivera to come back to the hall to fight. Rivera reportedly told Mendez to come to his girlfriend's house instead.

The man got into a fight on the front porch and that's when investigators said shots were fired.

Rivera left the scene in a car prior to officer’s arrival, however, was taken into custody in Memphis, Tennessee with the assistance of the Memphis Police Department.

He is being held without bond.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family pay for hospital and funeral costs.
