WAYNE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Two men were injured Saturday afternoon in a car accident after police say the driver was drinking while driving.

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, James L. Franklin, 25, of Geff, was traveling east on Wayne County Highway 7 at the intersection with County Road 1325 East, while speeding.

Franklin lost control of the vehicle near the intersection, which caused the vehicle to run off the road to the right.

The vehicle struck a private driveway culvert and became airborne.

The vehicle came down nose first and struck the ground before coming to rest in the yard of the home.

Franklin and his passenger, Randall S. Trout, 26, also of Geff, were both taken from the scene by Air Evac to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Neither were wearing their seat belts.

Officials say alcohol was a factor in the traffic crash.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by Geff Fire, Fairfield City Fire and Rescue, Air Evac, Wayne County Ambulance, Conservation Police and Rick’s Towing of Fairfield.

Franklin was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to wear seat belt, driving while license revoked, illegal transportation of alcohol, and DUI.
