The Icehouse Art Gallery in Mayfield, Kentucky is hosting this year’s Gourd Patch Arts Festival Saturday, September 17.

Arts & Crafts vendors, food trucks and live music will be featured at the festival which opens at 9am and continues until 3pm in and around the Icehouse.

The Gourd Festival is the Icehouse Gallery’s principle fundraiser.

It has been held annually for the past 12 years and this year’s event should be the biggest yet.

Planned events include the annual gourd race car derby, the “All About Gourds” exhibit in the Gallery, a silent auction, bake sale, live band, performances by Murray State University’s percussion ensemble playing music on instruments made from gourds, more than 30 art and gourd-related vendor booths, and a Food Court featuring several food trucks, each with a different menu.

Ronn Moyers will be conducting workshops at the Gallery in advance of the race car derby for gourd car construction.

Four workshops are scheduled: Tuesday, August 21 from 4:30 until 6; Saturday, August 27 from 10 until noon; Thursday, September 8 from 4:30 until 6:30; and Saturday, September 10 from 10 until noon.

Workshops will have a minimum of five students.

Contact the Icehouse to arrange special workshop sessions if you have a large group of students wanting to make gourd race cars.

Price for each workshop is $10 including the race car kit.

Ronn will have paint and various items to help students decorate their cars for the big race.

Inside the Icehouse Gallery visitors will see gourd artworks submitted for the annual “All About Gourds” annual exhibition.

This exhibition attracts gourd art from throughout the region.

A Silent Auction of items donated for the festival will be held with final bids to be announced at 2:30pm.

Mayfield Graves Tourism Commission will have a booth at this year’s event to help inform visitors of the various other events that are going on around our region throughout the year.

Mayfield Bikeway will also have a booth.

A “petition of support” will allow visitors to voice their enthusiasm for the proposed Bikeway project.

The routes for the Bikeway will be unveiled at the festival.

The Icehouse is located at 120 North 8th Street, one block north of Broadway and the courthouse square.

Admission to the Gourd Festival and the “All About Gourds” exhibit is free.

To obtain more information, or to inquire about reserving a vendor booth space, phone the Icehouse at (270) 247-6971.
