CHESTER, IL (KFVS) -

The former treasurer of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 415, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to federal charges.

According to the Department of Justice, Jeffrey Magelitz, 44, of Chester pleaded guilty in August to charges of embezzlement and theft from a labor union and for filing a false report with the Department of Labor.

Magelitz was sentenced to two years of probation, six months of home detention, and 100 hours of community service.

He has already made complete restitution, according to a release from the Department of Justice.

Magelitz was the treasurer of AFSCME Local 415 in Vienna, Illinois from January 2012 through June 2013.

That union represents employees at the Vienna Correction Center.

He embezzled about $30,000, according to the Department of Justice.

Investigators said he also prepared and cashed unauthorized checks made out to him and forged signatures on the checks.
