CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A kindergartner from Blanchard Elementary in Cape Girardeau, Missouri was left on a bus on Monday, August 15.

According to Neil Glass, the assistant superintendent, and Deena Ring, the director of special services, the child was found at the bus lot when it returned.

They say the child should have been dropped off at around 7:30 a.m., and was found at returned by 8:30 to 8:45 a.m.

Glass and Ring stressed the child was never left alone. They said the bus seats are tall, so the bus driver did not see the child.

Normally, two checks are performed. The bus monitor will do an initial check at the school and then a second check at the bus lot.

On Monday, they say the bus monitor did check at the school, but did check at the bus lot and that is when the child was found.

According to Glass and Ring, they are looking at their procedures to see if there is something that can be done to make buses safer. They wanted to stress that they did not want this to happen again and would change any procedures they need to.
