2016 Mardi Gras Queen Pageant set for October 15 in Pinckneyville, IL

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

The stage is set October 15 for the 2016 Mardis Gras Queen Pageant in Pinckneyville, Illinois, hosted by the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce.

Contestants compete not only for bragging rights, but also for scholarships - the Queen will receive $1,500 towards the college or university of her choice, while second, third, fourth, and fifth place winners will receive scholarships of $500, $250, $100, and $50, respectively. 

Also up for grabs are titles for each category in the pageant, including Miss Photogenic, Spirit of Mardis Gras, and Miss Mask-erade, which is a new category this year featuring homemade masquerade-style party masks.

The Pageant will be held at the Pinckneyville High School. 

Applications for the Pageant can be found on the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce website, www.pinckneyville.com, the deadline for application being September 3rd. 

Those why apply should expect to attend a meet and greet event at 10 am on September 3rd hosted by the Oxbow Bed and Breakfast, where photos for the Miss Photogenic contest will be taken. 

Also, contestants will participate in the "Collection on the Square" event on October 1st.
