This week in country music: 2009

(KFVS) -

Let's check out some country music headlines
 from six years ago.

Kanye West went on a rant against Taylor Swift at the MTV Music Video Awards. Swift was also named Entertainer of the year at the CMA awards.

Kenny Chesney is the top money maker with an estimated income of $65 million dollars.

And on this week in August of 2009, these were the songs at the top of Billboard Magazine's Hot Country Singles chart.

At number five was Randy Houser with Boots On. It was Houser's first top ten hit.

Rascal Flats was at number four with Summer Nights.

Checking in at number three was Taylor Swift with one of her many hits that year.  You Belong With Me became a big hit on Pop radio as well. In fact it was the biggest country crossover hit since Breathe by Faith Hill back in 2000.

Billy Currington was at number two with People Are Crazy.  You may remember it had the line which became an anthem: "God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

And in the top spot was former Hootie and the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker with Alright.
Country music critics didn't like the song saying quote: "It was a lot of Hootie and a lot less Haggard."
