First Alert Weather Outlook:

You’ll really be feeling the heat and humidity today. The heat index will hit temps of 103-107. There are some heat advisories in effect for some of the Heartland’s southern counties. There is a chance for a few thunderstorms this afternoon. FIRST ALERT: The weekend is looking extremely wet.

Making Headlines:

Tied together: This morning three men are behind bars in Kansas for allegedly conspiring to commit capital murder. Their arrests are tied to an ongoing shooting investigation in late July in Carbondale.

Working for answers: Investigators will be back at the scene of Wednesday's fire which destroyed several businesses in Poplar Bluff. Fire chief Ralph Stucker says this marks the worst fire in Poplar Bluff in more than 20 years.

Under investigation: Officers used tear gas last night to end an hours long standoff with a man holed up in a Poplar Bluff home. The man was accused of shooting at a house earlier Wednesday morning.

Back to school: Kids all over southeast Missouri will return to the classroom today. We're live in Jackson where new policies are in place to keep kids from turning to drugs.
